It is the great equalizer — heading back to school with a new backpack.
Every child deserves that feeling of fairness staring into the school year and the United Way of Bruce Grey is doing their part to ensure it happens.
The annual stuff a bus campaign — in part with their backpack campaign is now in full swing across Grey Bruce.
The campaign is to collect school supplies and monetary donations so all needy children can return to school with a new backpack and supplies.
Dobbyn says there are about 24-hundred children living in poverty in Grey Bruce and so far they have received 1,750 requests for backpacks this year from needy families.
Dobbyn wants to fill every request and with donations being taken at different area drives she sees the United Way accomplishing the goal.
Dobbyn says the program will boast approximately 55-thousand dollars this year.
There is a drive ongoing today and tomorrow at the Owen Sound Walmart and donations are excepted at the Meridian Credit Unions throughout Grey Bruce as well as anytime at Staples in Owen Sound.
Dobbyn hopes to see offices also pull together to donated financially to the cause with dress down days.
Monetary donations can always be made at the Owen Sound United Way office.
