There’s another candidate for the mayor’s position in Kincardine.
Resident Ron Stephens has filed his papers with the clerk’s office.
Stephens says he has several issues on his mind but the most important to him is having the municipality getting back some of it’s autonomy.
He says over the past several years, he’s watched the slow, steady removal of local powers and the results of it are evident now in the health, education and agricultural sectors.
Stephens says when elected he will contact the various jurisdictions to re-open discussion on the Green Energy Act.
He warns that it appears a provincial water act could be added to the energy act that could have a detrimental effect on agriculture and the price you pay for water.
Stephens hopes to head a council that will be of like mind as himself.
He says if anyone in any community understands the threat that rural Ontario is under, to spend $100 and run in the municipal election.
Stephens has not run in a municipal election before but was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2007 provincial election.
The municipal election takes place October 25th.
Kincardine Deputy Mayor Laura Haight is also running for the mayor’s position.
Incumbent Larry Kraemer has yet to indicate one way or the other if he’s going after another term.
