A member of Grey County Council has an idea that could help alleviate huge traffic tie-ups on summer weekends in Springmount.
Chatsworth Deputy Mayor Bob Pringle says lineups of northbound vehicles on Grey Road 18 can sometimes stretch from the intersection of Highway 6 and 21 all the way back to Grey Road 5, the Waverly Heights road.
He told County Council last week that the addition of a right-hand turn lane on Grey Road 18 can help.
Pringle says many motorists who want to turn right at Springmount, toward the Sunset Strip and Owen Sound, are getting caught up with the northbound traffic and are unable to turn until they get right to the corner.
Some motorists will find or make room to turn as they near the intersection, which sometimes means going up and over a curb.
Pringle says the County can make it easier for them by simply building a turn lane that may also accommodate more than one vehicle at a time.
Grey County Transportation Director Gary Shaw told council he would look into the possibility.
Shaw says the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is not likely to have an issue with the idea if it proves to be feasible.
Pringle wonders if the province could also be enlisted to help pay for the intersection improvement.
