Soon it will be the Gateway to the Arts between the Southampton Art School and the Art Gallery.
Gallery Director Aly Boltman says they have received a five thousand dollar grant which they must match to create the artistic iron gateway.
The grant comes from Bruce County through the Bruce Community Futures office who are looking for ways to revitalize downtown cores in Bruce County.
Boltman says the gateway will visually join the gallery and the art school.
She says the pillars of the Gateway will be unique as well.
Boltman says within the pillars will be approximately 20 permanent art spaces for artists to create a work on a tile.
She says the tiles will be fired in a kiln and then slipped into the arches and then will be there forever.
Boltman says it’s a terrific opportunity for local artists to leave a legacy of their work.
All of this has to happen rather quickly.
One of the conditions of the grant money is that it has to be spent by the end of the year.
Boltman says they’re hoping everything will be in place by Thanksgiving in October but she says with a chuckle, that it might have to be the American Thanksgiving in November.
