A dangerous intersection just east of Keady will be rebuilt by Grey County.
County Council has approved a plan to reconstruct Grey Road 16 where it intersects with concession 7 and concession 8 along the border of Georgian Bluffs and Chatsworth.
Grey County will also do the work itself after two tenders for the project both came in higher than the budgeted amount of 200 thousand dollars.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot says the plan is to build up the intersection by about three feet.
Barfoot — the Chair of the County’s transportation and public safety committee — says this will lessen the grade of a knoll at the eastern edge of the intersection, where a number of fatal accidents have occurred over the years.
The knoll prevents westbound motorists along the county road and north-south traffic on the concession roads from seeing each other until the westbound motorists are almost at the intersection.
Barfoot says Georgian Bluffs and Chatsworth will each pay 25 thousand dollars toward the project and the County will fund the other 150 thousand.
Work has already begun at the corner, where groves of trees have been cut back in order to help improve the sight lines.
Construction on the intersection itself is expected to start soon.
