A pilot program aimed at supporting the province’s oilseed producers has been extended into the 2010 crop year.
The Risk Management Program (RMP) program helps farmers offset losses caused by low grain and oilseed commodity prices.
Prices for grain and oilseed dropped more than 25 per cent this past year.
The program is open to farmers who received assistance in 2008 and/or in 2009, as well as those who began farming on or after January 1, 2008.
Ontario grain and oilseed farmers represent over 25 per cent of all around farm production in the province.
Ontario’s agri-food sector is one of the province’s leading industries, adding more than 33 billion dollars to the economy every year.
