If you have ever toured the Tom Thomson and wondered where the views originated from for his art — then this is evening for you.
Since the 70’s — Sue and Jim Waddington have been researching the group of seven locations for their viewpoint of thie art.
The Waddingtons will be featured in a talk Thursday night at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound.
The couple took an interest in the Group of Seven back in the 70’s and started to research where some of the famous paintings by the group including Thomson and A.Y Jackson.
Jim Waddington says they plan canoe trips around the research into the locations of the paintings — including those in Algonquin park.
Waddington says some of Thomson painting settings have been located over the years – although the Group of Seven is notorious for not keeping detailed records where they set their canvas.
150 settings so far have been pegged down but Waddington says the search will never end.
Waddington says he mainly does his research through maps.
The Waddingtons will be at the Gallery tonight starting at 7 PM and admission for the talk is free.
The talk will feature the picture of the painting researched and then a picture of what the site looks like now — along with all the research that has gone into the search.
