A Shallow Lake man is taking a bit of break from his cross Canada bicycle ride.
Ben Love and fellow University of Guelph Student Ian Watley are cycling across the country to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research.
Love says he always wanted to do the cross country trek and so did his friend, and they both agreed that they should try to raise funds for a worthy organization at the same time
He says Watley has experienced Alzheimers through some family members and they both agreed this was a good cause to support.
Love says so far the ride has raised over 12 thousand dollars towards their goal of 25 thousand.
He admits the trek has been an experience, especially the gruelling travel through the rocky mountains.
Love says he was not expecting the lengthy 50 kilometre uphill climbs they experienced or the wildlife they encountered.
He says there is nothing like spotting a grizzly bear in the ditch by the highway to speed you on your way.
He also says meeting people along the way has been a highlight of the trip.
Love says many strangers just come up to them out of the blue and offer to donate money for Alzheimer’s research.
He says after several days of rest in Shallow lake he and Wattle will head off to the east to try and complete their trip in Halifax by late August.
