The mother of an Owen Sound man shot to death by the RCMP in British Columbia hopes the officers are found guilty of murder.
In an exclusive interview with Bayshore Broadcasting News — Catherine Bartley says her son Wilbert Bartley was murdered.
Bartley was shot last Friday after his vehicle hit an unmarked police van in a parking lot in Kamloops, B-C.
Police say the two plainclothed Mounties fired two shots into the SUV Bartley was driving — and one hit and killed him.
Bartley says she has seen surveillance video of the incident and she says it’s obvious her son was murdered by the Police.
The Calgary Police Service is investigating the shooting and has not released many details about the incident.
Catherine Bartley says her son just went to the gas station to buy some cigarettes — and Police admit there is nothing to suggest a crime occurred.
Bartley acknowledges her son was “no angel” and had a “lengthy” criminal record — but insists he wasn’t a violent man.
Bartley claims the RCMP was targeting her son and he was known to police.
Wilbert Bartley would have turned 51 on Monday and Catherine Bartley says her son was coming home in two weeks to celebrate.
She says her son — who went by the name “Web” with his friends in Owen Sound, Wiarton and B-C — would never hurt anyone.
She says instead he wanted to make people laugh.
Bartley is happy another police service is investigating the RCMP because she hopes the two officers are found guilty of murder.
