As the long weekend continues, young drivers are reminded of the new zero tolerance law that’s now in effect.
As of Sunday — any driver 21 or under has to have a blood alcohol level above zero.
That means no alcohol at all in their system, not even one drink a couple of hours before they get behind the wheel.
Drivers found in violation will face an immediate 24-hour licence suspension.
But they could also face a 30-day licence suspension and a fine up to 500 dollars.
In the last 10 years, 235 drivers, 21 and under, were killed in drinking-and-driving collisions in Ontario.
Bayshore Broadcasting News asked a few people in our area what they think of the new law.
Most think it’s a good idea because many young people need to concentrate on learning to drive properly and learn responsibility.
One young man did say he thinks people who drink and drive will still do it no matter what and this new law is unfair to those who want to go out with friends and have one drink and then call it a night.
