There is a changing of the guard at the Bruce Grey Federation of Agriculture.
After 23 years Donna Spitzig is retiring as the long time Secretary Treasurer of the Organization.
Jessica Burgess from Formosa takes over from Spitzig who is retires at the end of the week.
Spitzig says the years have really gone by quickly and she has made many friends in the agricultural communities in the two counties.
She says looking back over her almost quarter of a centre of service with the Federation she is surprised to see that many of the issues farmers were dealing with back then continue to be a problem today.
Spitzig says over the years she has enjoyed working with the various presidents of both the Grey and Bruce County Federations of agriculture.
12 President in Bruce County and 9 different presidents in Grey County.
She says one of the biggest accomplishments she can remember was the organization of a massive rally the two federation of Agriculture attended in Ottawa in 1992.
Spitzig says they managed to fill eleven buses to sent farmers to the Nations capital to support supply management.
She says as she leaves the organization she is both surprised and pleased with how fast the local food movement has grown in Grey Bruce.
Spitzig says it was the Grey and Bruce Federations that started Market Grey Bruce several years ago which was the predecessor to the existing local food movement.
The Federation of Agriculture is hosting a retirement party for Spitzig at the Elmwood Communithy Centre Thursday from 5 PM until dusk.
There will be music, a barbecue and cake.
