The Opposition plans on grilling Industry Minister Tony Clement on Tuesday on the census issue during a Commons committee hearing.
The Harper government is digging in its heels over its decision to scrap the mandatory long census form and replace it with a voluntary questionnaire.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller is glad to see the long form gone.
Miller tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that he was riled when contacted the last time to fill out the form.
The MP says the woman explained to him on the phone that he should want to fill it out, being an MP and all.
Miller says if the census is supposed to be confidential then how did this woman know he was a Member of parliament.
The Conservative MP claims his office has received a number of calls in support of the move away from long form census taking, to a voluntary census.
At Tuesday’s committee hearing in Ottawa, the former head of Statistics Canada, Munir Sheikh, is also scheduled to appear.
He resigned in protest this week over the changes.
Those changes have been slammed by governments, religious groups, experts and economists.
