The deep heritage of Owen Sound is being celebrated this weekend in the City.
The 5th annual Heritage Days is underway and this year, the Owen Sound Museums have teamed up with Georgian Bay Tugfest.
Museums Special Events Co-ordinator Kathy Strutt says they have tugboats already in Owen Sound for this weekend’s festival.
The official opening to Heritage Days was last night and many of the tugboats arrived on Friday.
Norm McNarry — the Chair of Tugfest — says if you want to see the tugboats, this is the year to do it.
McNarry notes they may not be back for awhile since they do a circuit of ports along the Georgian Bay Shoreline.
McNarry says they have up to 20 fully restored tugs in the harbour and they are all decorated with flags and lights.
There is plenty for the family to do today.
There is a daytime tug parade and races that start at Noon — an event that McNarry says is best viewed right along the harbourfront.
There are many activities at the Billy Bishop Home and Museum and the Marine and Rail Museum.
Strutt says there will be model railway displays, personnel from the Meaford base and re-enactors from 1812.
Some activities are admission by donation and the proceeds will support the Owen Sound Museum programs.
