A fundraiser for a very brave Durham boy’s fight against cancer is pulling a community together.
Seven-year old Jake Schafer was just discovered back in early June as having neuroblastoma cancer — already in stage 4.
A very sports minded and active boy — his Mom Catherine says it has been quite a blow not only to Jake — but to her and her husband as well.
Catherine says the community has rallied behind the family helping out where they can and lending emotional support.
A carnival and family dance is being held today in support of Jake at the Durham community centre.
Catherine says that although Jake is currently on anti-biotics and is at sick kids hospital in Toronto – doctors are doing everything they can to try to get him healthy enough to attend.
The carnival starts at 2 PM and runs until 6 PM featuring bouncy castles – all day bbq – sports demonstrations and a beer tent.
There will also be a silent auction – penny table and face painting.
There is a family dance starting at 7 PM and running until Midnight.
Catherine says Jake’s outlook on life is – has and always will be positive.
