Donald Dinnie is returning to Lucknow.
A sculpture of the famous Scottish athlete will be unveiled at the corner of Willoughby and Campbell this morning at 11 AM.
The Lucknow Beautification Committee commissioned local artist William Dickie to create the sculpture.
Committee Chair Joan Chamney says it’s a unique and one-of-a-kind life size model built out of various types of metals.
Chamney says Donald Dinnie has become the town’s mascot.
Born in Scotland in 1867, he is said to be one of the first sports superstars of modern times.
He won over 10 thousand competitions during his career and also loved to challenge people at their favourite sport, everything from wrestling to caber toss to running.
Dinnie joined the Caledonia Circuit and toured North America, competing in the Caledonia Games in Lucknow in the late 19th century.
Chamney says the sculpture will be a tourist attraction for the village for years to come.
