It’s here — the 27th Annual Chantry Chinook Classic begins Saturday.
The annual fishing derby continues until Sunday August 8th.
Up to 125 thousand dollars in prizes are available in the 2010 Chantry Chinook Classic with the heaviest fish landing someone a 12 thousand dollar cash prize.
And if the last two digits of the winning weight matches a predetermined number in an envelope — the lucky angler will win an additional cash prize of 50 thousand.
Not only is the prize structure bigger, but the boundary has also been expanded.
Derby Chair Bob Greason says they have expanded the border to include parts of Georgian Bay so it’s not limited to the Lake Huron Shoreline.
Greason explains the expanded boundary is designed to allow smaller boats to compete on Georgian Bay in the event that high winds impact the competition on Lake Huron.
Proceeds from the derby are directed to the Lake Huron Fishing Club, primarily to the Fish Hatchery.
Greason says the Fish hatchery is a tremendous asset to sport fishing and the region in general, as it allows the Club to continually stock Lake Huron with Rainbow and Brown Trout.
