The value of construction started in Owen Sound this year, has already broken the record for a full year.
Development co-ordinator for the City, Sandi Parks says the previous record for construction value was in 1990 when 33.1 million dollars worth of work was done.
So far in 2010, the city has issued permits for nearly 40 million dollars worth of work.
Parks says June saw a permit for 33.9 million dollars issued for the Regional rec centre, which boosted the total to the new record.
The other major work that began in June in Owen Sound was nearly 200 thousand dollars worth of mechanical upgrades at Bayview school.
Meanwhile, city hall has handed out nearly 200 construction permits this year compared with 167 at the same time last year.
Parks says that means a lot of renovation work is underway in the Scenic City.
