The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is trying to determine what role it can play in promoting a healthy community.
Spokesperson Patricia Morley says the School Board is welcoming public input.
She says the challenge is to come up with ways that schools can help the community to become healthier.
Morley says one thing the board has and continues to do is open its school doors free of charge to community and local sports groups that want to use the gymnasium.
She adds the Catholic Board is also implementing nutritional changes to its cafeterias and food sales to ensure students make healthier choices.
An increased walking boundary distance to school is also being hailed as another way to promote physical activity.
But Morley says it can’t stop there — she says more needs to be done.
That’s why community members, parents, students and teachers are all welcomed to bring forth their own suggestions and ideas.
Morley notes obesity, physical inactivity, smoking and heavy drinking are all reported problems in the Grey Bruce area.
And Morley says schools have the opportunity to play an important role in curbing these practices.
