A new municipal website is slowly coming together for Saugeen Shores.
The online overhaul is an initiative of the Marketing Focus Group.
Member – and Chamber of Commerce General Manager – Joanne Robbins says a graphic designer has now created a static blueprint so they can see exactly what the new site would look like.
Robbins says the overall look and feel is fun, vibrant, and colourful with lots of graphics.
At the same time it is very user friendly and interactive with easy to use links.
Robbins says they’ve decided that the homepage of www.saugeenshores.ca will be the tourism page.
She says statistics show that tourism has evolved into a web based industry and 95 per cent of people head to the internet first when planning a trip.
Robbins says the homepage will provide all the information tourists need, with links about what to do and where to stay.
She adds residents and people thinking of relocating to Saugeen Shores will also be able to click through to the traditional municipal pages.
Robbins says the website will need to be maintained and updated and they are still thinking of ways to develop revenue streams to pay for that.
She says one idea called content advertising would see sponsored videos on the site showcasing everything from events to accommodations.
Robbins says the Marketing Focus Group is working on a business plan that they hope to present to council before the next budget year.
She says the new site could launch next summer.
