The Southampton Art Gallery and Shop is trying to bring local art to the public.
The third annual Up Your Alley Outdoor Art Show and Sale will be held today in the alley way and gardens between the Southampton Art School and the Art Gallery.
Director Aly Boltman says it’s a beautiful garden which is often under-used, and it’s nice to get people in there.
And she says it’s a great opportunity for local artists to showcase not only their exhibits, but to show people how they work on their art.
Boltman says they’ll have photographers, painters, and wood-turners working on pieces during the show.
The event began three years ago to honour the Ministry of Culture’s “Celebrate the Artist” Day.
Boltman says admission is free, but you are welcome to purchase some works if you’d like.
She says the goal is to not only to expose local artists, but to expose the public and get them involved in the arts.
Boltman says part of their mandate is to bring art to the people in the most accessible way possible, and she says it’s the perfect venue to achieve that, as there are no stairs to climb and plenty of space.
The day goes from 10 AM to 4 PM and the Southampton Rotary Club will also be on hand serving up a BBQ lunch.
