It should be a perfect night to head outside to watch a classic film.
Tonight is the first instalment of the Music and Movies event in Owen Sound ats the Kelso Beach Amphitheatre.
City Events Co-ordinator Doug Cleverley says this is a free event that is perfect for the entire family.
Cleverley explains it is part of the Celebrate Owen Sound events where council wanted free events during the summer to promote the city and its beauty.
For the next four consecutive Friday’s starting at 8 PM — the amphitheatre will be the spot for kids activities – music and then a film shown on a huge outdoor screen at dusk.
Tonight’s film will be what Cleverley is getting feedback as a very good choice for the opening film – ET the extra terrestrial.
Cleverly says it is a popular film for those in their 30’s to 50’s but alot of young children haven’t had the opportunity to see it on the big screen.
The event starts at 8 PM with activities for children by Play in Bruce Grey, then at 8:30 PM, there will be a half hour of music.
This week’s musician is Jill Jambore who has been chosen to perform at the summer folk youth night.
Next Friday’s film is The Secret of Nimh – followed the following Friday by Babe and the final film will be an accompanied by the silent film ensemble with live music and will feature Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights.
Cleverley says there will be popcorn, beverages and of course to protect you from any mosquitoes — bug spray.
He suggests you bring your lawn chairs and blankets and assures the screen is huge and the sound is excellent.
The event has several business sponsors as well as the City of Owen Sound and the Kiwanis Club.
