Top officials at the Hanover and District Hospital Board are defending their decision to do away with non elected members.
Board Chair Allan Fisher makes no apologies for the move.
He says the Hanover Hospital was under pressure by the Ontario Hospital Association, the province and legal council to eliminate the appointed positions.
Fisher says there is nothing sinister about it — they are simply moving towards a skilled based board that is totally elected.
CEO Katrina Wilson admits it was a stressful and difficult decision.
She says Hanover was one of the few remaining hospitals that held onto the appointed members for this long.
Wilson says it’s hard to say goodbye to these members who have made such a positive contribution over the years.
The hospital’s four appointed members from Hanover, West Grey, Brockton as well as the Hospital auxiliary have all been eliminated.
Municipal representatives from West Grey, Hanover, and Brockton have all expressed their disappointment in the decision.
