Owen Sound will complete work on the 10th Street East link this year after all.
The city had put that project on the back burner, expecting it would instead receive funding from the Ministry of Transportation for work on a different section of 10th Street infront of Victoria Park.
But the MTO has turned the city down, meaning that much-needed project will have to wait.
So Owen Sound will instead complete the link connecting the two sections of 10th Street East near Wal-Mart and the hospital.
Tendering for the project is expected to take place by August.
Even so, it’s possible that traffic will still not be able to use the completed link until after the intersection of 10th Street and 9th Avenue East is expanded.
And that’s part of the project that has been put on hold thanks to the MTO not coming through with the expected funding.
Councillor Bill Twaddle — the Chair of the Operations Advisory Committee — says the city will apply again for that funding next year.
He says there is much servicing work that needs to be done along 10th Street in front of the rec centre, but that work can still be done next summer since the rec centre won’t be finished by then anyway.
