An organization that targets workplace training and staffing is gathering information to help develop improved opportunities for workplace training in Huron, Perth, Bruce and Grey Counties.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board is undertaking a year-long survey of employers, business and industrial organizations which wraps up next March.
Board Executive-Director Gemma Mendez-Smith says the project aims to paint an accurate picture of what’s happening with local employers.
Mendez-Smith says some of the information involves how many employers have made new hires and how many have had to lay off workers and in what occupations they have done that.
Mendez-Smith says the survey is an effort to bring broad-based StatsCan figures into sharper focus.
She says the survey will help them find out if the Stats-Can numbers are accurately reflected by more localized numbers.
Mendez-Smith says a final report based on survey findings will be taken to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to see what the trend is regionally.
Mendez-Smith says partnerships with groups like Chambers of Commerce and organized labour are key in the direction of future training programs.
Mendez-Smith says one of the aims is to develop economic development strategies tied to training in growth industries.
