Chatsworth Mayor Howard Greig is the latest politician to announce he won’t be seeking re-election this fall.
Greig says after 28 years in municipal politics — it’s time to slow down a bit and spend more time with his family.
Over the almost three decades of public service, Greig has served as Councillor in the then Sullivan Township, deputy reeve, Mayor and twice as Grey County Warden.
He always stated once he started to lose interest and not enjoy the job, then it was to consider getting out of politics.
Greig says it now appears that time has come.
He says over the years the job of Mayor of even a smaller community has become even more demanding to the point that it is almost a full time job, seven days a week.
Greig says the average voters really has no understanding about the amount of time elected officials spend going to meetings or dealing with local issues, even on their own time after hours.
Greig also took the opportunity to fire one more parting shot at the Provincial government and what calls its unfair funding formula especially when it comes to rural municipalities.
He says the Province is funnelling more and more money to the large urban areas at the expense of rural Ontario.
