Goderich Lawyer Quinn Ross says people considering placing wind turbines on their land need to be better informed and better compensated in the long run.
1.1 billion dollars is being put into wind projects throughout southwestern Ontario, including locally in Bluewater municipality, and one local lawyer says you need to make sure you’re getting our fair chunk of that money.
Ross claims companies under the CanWay umbrella are relatively unregulated, which means that while they have to offer fair market dollars to get on people’s land, they don’t have to follow rules of compensation, and adhere to less disclosur obligations.
Ross says there are complex issues that many people don’t know to ask before agreeing to having the turbines put up on their property.
Ross says his primary concern is that people are putting themselves at risk by agreeing to a relationship with the wind companies without proper guidance.
Ross shares he hates seeing people entering into deals uniformed when they could get more money, more protection and more long term assurances.
Ross advices that if you have been approached by a wind company you would be wise to contact a lawyer first to make sure your safe guarded in the long run.
