A Hanover youth has the story of a lifetime to share — 19 year old Daniel Bennett was able to rub shoulders with royalty Monday night.
It was big night for 19 year old Daniel Bennett of Hanover.
He was at the Royal York in Toronto to receive the Duke of Edinburgh award from Prince Phillip himself.
Hanover Councillor and family friend Rick Hopkins says Bennett was suppose to receive this award for the last two years but it kept being postponed.
To his luck, Bennett managed to finally receive the award on Queen Elizabeth’s 22nd tour to Canada.
Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell says all of Council applauds Bennett for his accomplishment.
She calls him a shining example of calibre of youth Hanover has to offer
The Duke of Edinburgh Award recognizes four main criteria including volunteer work, physical fitness, skills and expedition.
The program is open to youth between the ages of 14 and 25.
Bennett is currently enrolled in his second year of Royal Military College in Kingston.
