Not everyone is sad to see Bill Murdoch announce his retirement.
The Progressive Conservative has been the MPP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound for 20 years — and the local Liberal Association says it’s time for a change.
Vice President Marjorie Davison says she almost cheered at news of Murdoch’s intentions not to run in next year’s provincial election.
Davison says it’s almost gotten to the point where people were saying there’s no point in running against Murdoch because he’s going to win.
She says now there’s a feeling of euphoria and excitement that they will find the right candidate and send a Liberal to Queen’s Park.
Davison says the Association will immediately send out a candidate search committee to interview people who are possibly sitting in the wings and waiting for an opportunity like this.
She says they’d love to see a real campaign with four or five candidates to get the community excited.
Davison says they have some names in mind but any announcement is still months away.
Davison adds that it’s time for a new voice for the people of Grey Bruce at Queen’s Park.
She says not everyone was happy with Murdoch’s ‘maverick ideas and antics’ and there’s room for a more professional Member of Provincial Parliament.
