Owen Sound could have a new source of funding for its wastewater treatment plant upgrades.
Building Canada has already promised 30 million dollars for the project — 15 million from each of the federal and provincial governments.
That was based on a presumption that the total cost would be 45 million dollars.
But that number has since jumped to 60 million.
The City has submitted a request for increased funding from Building Canada, and that request has yet to be acted on.
But it’s come to the city’s attention that another federal funding agency called P3 Canada is interested in lending support.
And so Council has submitted a preliminary application to P3 Canada.
Councillor Jim McManaman and City Manager Jim Harrold recently met with P3 Canada representatives about their program.
McManaman says Owen Sound has made it clear that it does not want to compromise or undermine its recent request for more funding from Building Canada.
At this point, the city is merely expressing an interest in pursuing the matter with P3.
