Walkerton and Hanover are celebrating Canada Day in style.
In Walkerton — the festivities kick off at 11 AM with a children’s bike parade led by the Legion’s Pipe Band from the Tot Lot to Centennial Park.
Opening ceremonies begin at 11:30 AM
This will be followed by a free community barbeque and birthday cake.
Organizer John McPhee says they will also have children’s games, activities and live entertainment all afternoon at Centennial Park.
There is also a free public swim from 2 PM until 4 PM.
In Hanover — the celebration takes place at Heritage Square from 11:30 AM to 3 PM.
The festivities include a childrens carnival, a BBQ, two stages of entertainment as well as a pictorial display by the new Heritage Committee.
There will also be a scavenger hunt, aboriginal drumming, face painting, free birthday cake and a special twoonie public swim at the aquatic centre.
Manager of Programs Bert Lennox also asks residents to wear red and white to show off their patriotic pride.
The annual fireworks display in Brockton will actually take place in Cargill this year — rather rather than in Walkerton — to coincide with Cargill’s Pickn At the Pond event.
