A Canada Day present to Ontario residents — the HST on goods and services.
The 13 per cent harmonized sales tax is here, and with it comes many changes to costs on goods and services.
It will apply to such things as hair cuts, dry cleaning, taxi rides, lawn care, cigarettes, home renovations, hotel bills, funerals and gym memberships.
We will also see immediate increases in the cost of electricity, gas, diesel fuel, natural gas, and home heating fuel.
Critics are calling it nothing more than a tax grab, but Premier Dalton McGuinty and his supporters say the tax will actually boost many areas of the province.
