Everything is ready for the Saugeen Shores Canada Day celebrations in Southampton.
Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Heather Lorenz says the big show gets underway at 5 PM Thursday under the big flag at the foot of High Street.
Lorenz says they’ve expanded some of the activities this year.
There will be kite flying on the beach; teddy bear making workshops and a colouring station, along with face painting for the kids.
For the grown-ups, there’s a 50-50 draw being run by the Southampton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Plus there will be plenty of music and plenty to eat.
Lorenz says this all leads up to the big fireworks show at dusk, weather permitting.
She says well over six thousand dollars worth of fireworks will be lit up.
Lorenz says residents of Saugeen Shores can give themselves a pat on the back because they helped raise the funds for this show by giving their spare change at many businesses in specially marked collection boxes designed to help pay for the fireworks.
Should there be rain or unmanageable wind conditions, the rain date for the fireworks is the next night, Friday, July 2nd, at the same spot.
Kincardine will be a busy place as well Canada Day.
The Special Needs Co-ordinator in Kincardine Erin Peister says the day will kick off with a Canada Day Parade at 11 AM.
It will begin at the Royal Canadian Legion on Lambton Street, east on Lambton to Queen Street and then south on Queen to Harbour Street where it will end in the cul de sac.
An official Canada Ceremony will be held at the flag pole at the foot of Harbour Street in Kincardine followed by an afternoon of family activities.
The day will be capped off with a fireworks display at dusk off the pier at the harbour.
In Sauble Beach, spokesperson Judy Parsons says Sauble Beach will have fireworks at night, and live, local entertainment throughout the day right on the beach.
