Officials at the Grey Bruce Health Unit hope to lift the swimming advisory at Sauble Beach by Canada Day.
The Health Unit issued a no swimming advisory for the normally pristine water last Friday.
It’s the first time in recent memory that Sauble Beach has been posted as unsafe for swimming.
Health Protection Manager Andrew Barton says they are taking water samples daily to ensure the bacteria levels have dropped.
A routine sample taken last week found higher than acceptable levels of e.coli.
Several residents have complained the crew who used the beach last week to film a Juno Beach documentary dumped sewage into ditches and the rain washed into the lake.
But Barton says they have not been able to confirm that claim or any other source for that matter.
He feels the rain over the last few days has not helped the situation.
The Health Unit and the Ministry of Environment are working closely to narrow down the source of the bacteria.
If people avoid the advisory and go swimming — Barton says they may suffer from gastrointestinal issues if they swallow too much water.
Barton adds they are taking samples daily in hopes of finding a clean sample before Thursday.
