A Hanover Councillor thinks its time to shake things up at the Grey County level.
Peter Hambly suggests the time change when Grey County Council meets — from day to evening meetings.
Hambly says this would enable more people to run for mayor or deputy mayor in their own municipalities.
Mayors and deputy mayors are required to sit on County Council, and those meetings all take place during the day.
Hambly says most people with a regular day job can’t afford to take the time off work during the day to attend the meetings.
Warden Arlene Wright says Hambly has raised a valid point and promises to take his suggestion back to the County.
She says the daytime meetings stem from the rural roots of the County when most representatives were farmers.
Wright notes the meetings started at 10 AM after chores were done and wrapped up before evening chores began.
