Today is a day to pay tribute to loved ones and honour their memory through the planting of a tree.
The Saugeen Conservation Authority is hosting its annual Memorial Grove Ceremony at its headquarters at 2 PM today.
Close to 800 people are expected to attend the invitation only event.
Spokesperson Shannon Wood says it’s a very moving experience that will hopefully leave people with hope and peace.
Over 250 trees were planted this spring, in newly established forests throughout the watershed.
Wood says it is the one program which truly brings people and nature together.
Wood says not only do the trees represent a living legacy of those who have died — they also perform an important role in the well-being of our local environment.
Since the program began in 1991 — over four thousand trees have been planted.
Proceeds from the program are used to fund conservation projects.
The cost is 60 dollars a tree.
