When it comes to volunteering — Hanover residents know where its at.
The town scored above the national average for its volunteerism as part of the Canadian Council of Learnings Composite Learning Index.
Mayor Kathi Maskell isn’t a bit surprised — she says Hanover is a little town with a big heart.
She credits small town pride and a willingness to pull together for the town.
Hanover also scored above the national average for exposure to reading.
The Composite Learning Index looked at everything from reading and math scores in young people to job training, exposure to culture and access to the internet.
For the most part Hanover was right on par with the nations average in most areas
Other neighbouring communities such as West Grey, Brockton, Saugeen Shores and the City of Owen Sound also scored above the nations average for volunteerism.
Over 260 people were honoured by the province at OSCVI Friday night for volunteering in their communities.
