Today is a day of family fun at the Elmwood Community Centre Park.
The Elmwood Fire Department is hosting its first ever Appreciation Day.
The day begins with a free Kids Fishing Derby at 8 AM and runs until Noon.
The pond has been stocked with fish and there will be prizes for the biggest catch.
Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
No pole – no problem!!! Firefighter Carl Frook says fishing poles will be provided to those without one.
At 11 AM — the firefighters will showcase their skills and equipment with auto extrication, thermal imaging, fire extinguishing and fire and safety demonstrations.
The West Grey Canine Unit will also be on hand to provide demonstrations as well.
Than at 5 PM — their will be a Wing Night co-hosted with the Elmwood Chamber of Commerce and a Bavarian garden.
Frook invites everyone to come out and join in the festivities.
He calls it a unique opportunity for the fire department to mingle with resident in a casual festive manner.
Any proceeds from the Wing Night and Bavarian gardens will be used to support Camp Bucko — a specialty camp for burn victim children.
