Relay For Life events are getting underway in the region.
The first fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society taking place in our region will be at Cape Croker Indian Park tonight.
Co-Chair Kim Norris Chegano says she’s pleased to have more teams registered this year.
So far, 23 teams have signed up with a total of 230 participants.
She notes for the past couple of years, they’ve had 17 teams.
Chegano says there’s also some competition between the two banks in Wiarton to raise money, as well as between the Lions Head and Wiarton schools.
The event kicks off at 7 PM with opening ceremonies, followed by the victory lap which will feature 25 cancer survivors this year.
Chegano says last year’s event raised 56 thousand dollars, and they hope to do better than that this year.
You can still purchase luminaries at the Royal Bank in Wiarton up until Friday morning, or you can buy them right at the event.
Donations and pledges can also be made online.
