Owen Sound is kicking off the first weekend of summer in style.
A brand new event called the Bayshore Harbour Daze Festival runs today and tomorrow along the west side of the Scenic City’s harbour.
Event Facilitator Doug Cleverley says this is another free family event as the city expands on its Celebrate Summer initiative.
Cleverley says Friday is all about musical entertainment with tons of great local talent featured at the Good Cheer Music Plaza.
Bands including Brent Pattingale, Joe Cassidy, Brothers the Band, and Rewired will be taking the stage from 4 PM to 11 PM.
Cleverley says admission is free and the shows are all-ages, but there is a licensed area as well as a food tent run by the Scenic City Order of Good Cheer.
Then Saturday is the main event of Harbour Daze with a jam packed schedule of family friendly activities from 10 AM to 11 PM.
Cleverley says there will be a KidZone with crafts, face painting, clowns, and pony rides.
Kids can also check out a hands on science show as well as an amphibian show.
Cleverley says they’re also taking advantage of the harbourfront setting with a marine trade show and water sport demonstrations.
Jason Simpson from The School of Wake in Sauble Beach will be showing off his wakeboarding skills in the water.
The Albion Carnival has also been on site since Wednesday and the midway will continue to run throughout the festival.
Cleverley says all the activities are located on the west side of the harbour, wrapped around the Marine and Rail Museum and the skate park.
He suggests people park at Kelso Beach and for 2 dollars you can get a horse drawn wagon ride down to the festival grounds.
