Some 13 thousand people will be in Huntsville area starting today as the G-8 Summit officially opens.
The G-20 Summit will kick off this weekend in Toronto with some 10 thousand of the worlds leaders in attendance.
Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb looks forward to the outcome of a number of big ticket items like bank taxes, efforts to reduce deficits around the world, and how best to supply aid to other countries.
Lobb calls criticism surrounding the price tag of the summits, in particular the 1.9 million dollar tag for the media facility, the most overblown subject he’s encountered during his time in parliament.
Lobb feels specifically the “fake lake” had been misrepresented and should be seen as as opportunity to showcase what Canada has to offer to the 3000 visiting media personal.
Lobb explains it’s unprecedented to have both summits back to back and feels the government has done well to keep the price tag at under a billion dollars.
Lobb adds much of the billion dollar funding was allocated for the security and protection of the world’s leaders.
