With housing prices rising in Bruce County, the Long Term Housing Strategy needs to be reworked.
A public forum was hosted Tuesday at the Kincardine Beach Pavillion to discuss the issues and lack of affordable housing.
The forum was attended by residents, housing professionals, and politicians.
County Manager of Housing Services, Susan Earle, says there is a need along the shoreline for affordable rental units.
She says interior parts of the county struggle with the same problem because there are even less new multi-family type dwellings being built.
Earle says the shoreline also has a need for better supports so people can live independently.
She says there aren’t enough services to help seniors, people with addictions, or people with mental or physical difficulties.
When it comes to home ownership, Earle says a lot of the new ones being built are at the high end of the pricing scale.
She says this is making it very difficult for people with moderate incomes to own a home.
Earle says they hope to create a final Long Term Housing Strategy by September.
She says they’ll then present it to County Council, and hope for approval.
