The new Chief of Staff at Grey Bruce Health Services is now on the job.
Doctor Bob Severs sat in on his first board of directors meeting Thursday night.
The anaesthesiologist has previously been a member of the board as a co-president of the medical staff.
He officially takes over in his new role on July 1st from Doctor Don Eby — an E-R doctor who is nearing the end of his second three year term as Chief of Staff.
Severs has worked for GBHS since 1982.
A former family physician — Severs was chief of the department of anesthesiology from 1991 to 1993 and is currently the department’s deputy chief.
Severs has also served as coordinator of the intensive care unit and, on two occasions, as the chair of the hospital’s continuing education committee.
Severs and Eby have been long-time friends as well as colleagues, and the new chief of staff says he is well aware of the challenges he’ll face in the post — including the ever-present financial constraints.
Sever is confident he’ll be able to turn to Eby for advice when he needs to do so.
GBHS President and CEO Maureen Solecki says Eby has done an outstanding job in the past six years and he will be missed.
Solecki says the door will be open for Eby to continue to play a role in medical administrative leadership with the corporation if he so chooses.
And she’s confident in Severs’ ability to step into the new position and handle it capably.
