Construction in Owen Sound is continuing along at a strong pace and officials believe that will continue for the rest of the year.
In April and May, a total of 88 construction permits were issued with the total value of construction over 2.2 million dollars.
That is way up from a year ago and Owen Sound Development Co-ordinator Sandi Parks feels the numbers will remain strong, even after the HST kicks in July 1st.
She says no one is mentioning the new tax, as a reason for building early in the City.
In the year to date totals, over 7 million dollars worth of construction began in 2009 during the first 5 months, compared with 4.8 million so far this year.
Parks says last years’ figure was skewed by the 3.8 million dollar waste water treatment plant renovation.
She says 2010 will also be skewed by the Regional Rec Centre project.
Parks issued a foundation permit for the centre Monday and the total project is worth 38 million dollars.
