Tenders for the new Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound are continuing to come in under budget.
City council realized more than 89 thousand dollars in savings Monday night in approving two tenders — one for the facility’s concrete formwork and one for elevators.
Special Capital Projects Manager Brad McRoberts says they continue to find savings for the nearly 38 million dollar project.
Combined with another 50 thousand in savings in the caisson work at the site — which was approved last week — that’s about 140 thousand knocked off the total price tag.
That’s important, McRoberts says, because the public needs to be aware that the city is doing everything in its power to reduce the cost.
McRoberts also brought councillors up to date on the caisson work which has begun and will support the facility in the soft soil of Victoria Park.
He says other tenders will soon be approved and activity on the site will continue to increase over the coming weeks.
