The annual general meeting for Safe ‘N Sound is being held Tuesday evening.
The Homelessness Initiative provides safe emergency shelter and support for homeless people in the Owen Sound area.
Over the next few months, Safe”N Sound will be working with Grey County to develop a homelessness strategy plan.
In a news release, the organization says donations have dried up in the last few months and homeless programs are at risk.
Tonight’s meeting at “The Space” on 8th street east in Owen Sound is at 6:30 PM.
The meeting will help set direction, and elect the Volunteer Board of directors to organize the services.
HISTORY:
In January of 2008, Safe’N Sound started offering an after-hours shelter service … with a telephone line staffed by volunteers.
Those in need of emergency shelter were provided with up to a (1) nights’ stay in a motel, transportation and a 5 dollar food voucher.
The service partners with the Y Housing support program…. and depends on donations for help with transportation and food vouchers.
In March of 2009, Safe “N Sound opened “The Space” at 310 8th street east in Owen Sound.
It is a community drop-in centre which is open weekdays 1pm=4:30pm.
Trained staff and volunteers help people access services including housing and income.
