Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of or something you should hide from.
The Grey Bruce Community Health Corporation — in connection with the Community Network Support Team — is holding their summer evening speaker series on mental health.
Director Shane Barker says the series is focused mainly for those afflicted with serious mental illness as well as family members of the mental health patients.
Barker says its important that family members attend because it shows they are not alone in dealing with the stress of mental illness in the family.
The topics range from understanding the mental health act to substance abuse and all lectures are free of charge.
Barker says another key component of the series is their resource library at the facility.
Barker explains the library is a hidden gem in Grey and Bruce and holds over 15-hundred titles on mental health and is the largest mental health resource library north of Toronto.
The library is open from 5:30 PM until 8 PM the evenings of the lectures and it is free to sign out material from the library.
Barker says the cost of staff for the lectures is covered through the Ministry Health and Longterm care and different agencies are speaking at the series from many areas including the Alzheimer society.
The complete list of Tuesday night lectures that run until August 31st is available at their website at www.mhagb.ca
The lectures take place from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM at 1101 2nd Avenue East Suite 205, above the Boot and Blade restaurant in Owen Sound.
