Union leaders and members of the Friends of Kincardine hospital are turning up the heat on management at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
News conferences were held in Durham and Kincardine Wednesday to highlight some of the concerns about the four-site hospital.
Union leaders claim the South Bruce Grey Health Centre is alienating it’s staff and the community, by implementing cuts.
OPSEU spokesperson Rick Janson says one issue is the move to dismantle the hospitals’ kitchens and truck in frozen meals for patients.
Janson says originally, it looked like a cost saving move with up to 15 jobs being cut.
However, Janson says while close a dozen workers are being severed off, the hospital is now hiring six workers for those jobs.
Janson says workers are being driven to tears and labour relations are at an all time low.
On June 19th, OPSEU is planning on handing out leaflets at all 4 hospital sites — Durham, Chesley, Kincardine and Walkerton — to put more pressure on Management at the Health centre to address their concerns.
One of those at the news conferences today was the co-chair of the Friends of Kincardine hospital, Mary Ellen Pollard.
She says morale is low at the hospital sites.
Grey Bruce Labour council President Dave Trumble was also out in support of the workers.
He says it was really no surprise that no South Bruce Grey Health Centre management appeared to hear their grievances.
