A survey by the Owen Sound and District Chamber of Commerce paints a pretty positive picture about living in the Scenic City.
The survey found the overwhelming majority of respondents feel Owen Sound to be a very good place to live, work and play.
95 per cent of business owners stated this was a good place to live and 91 per cent say its a good place to play and 90 per cent say a good place to work.
Chamber Advocacy Committee Chair Bob Switzer says the survey also showed there is a serious concern among the business community about the business atmosphere in Owen Sound.
He says 25 per cent of business owners and managers answered “no” when asked if the city was a good place to operate a business.
Switzer says 33 per cent stated Owen Sound was not receptive or friendly to business, a number he says surprised Chamber officials.
He says a number of young people also expressed their concern that the city is not as receptive as it could be to young innovative business people
He says the number one concern expressed by many of the survey respondents was the level of taxation in the city and how the business community is paying far more than its fair share compared to the residential side.
Switzer says this high tax rate also makes Owen Sound unattractive to any potential new business thinking of relocating to this area.
