A court hearing at London this week outlining the final details in a proposal that would see 45 creditors of Flesherton-based Neil Brothers Construction receive payment has drawn interest across the province.
Ottawa Senators winger Chris Neil, a Flesherton native, was a partner in the business with his brothers Jeff, Dan and Jay.
The business, which specialized in excavation work, ceased operations in 2006 when it encountered financial issues.
Todd Reynolds of Uptown Sports Management — who is Neil’s agent in hockey — says he was aware of the financial issue, which occurred 4 years ago.
But Reynolds stresses it’s “old news” and the arrangement with creditors has been looked after.
Reynolds also objects to media reports that indicated Neil was “bankrupt.”
The court proceeding is normal in a business case like this one, according to Reynolds, who believes this case, due to Neil’s prominence in hockey, was sensationalized by the media.
Reynolds states Neil was accountable and cleared the financial issues up years ago.
