The time crunch is on for students looking for summer jobs – and this is Hire A Youth Week.
The Owen Sound Service Canada Centre for Youth is hosting a special event outside City Hall on Wednesday from 10 AM to 3 PM.
Youth Services Officer Liam Mulroy says the Outdoor Office is meant to promote the services they provide to both youth and employers.
Mulroy says youth can stop by for help with their resumes and tips on job hunting, while employers can get information on job posting opportunities.
He adds their office is a little out of the way on 1st Avenue West near the harbour and it’s good to get out and be visible in the community.
Mulroy says they will hold another event this Friday called a Race For Jobs.
Two teams of Youth Services Officers will race toward each other from Owen Sound and Collingwood trying to see who can talk to more employers about the services offered by the Centre for Youth.
Mulroy says it’s important to make sure that businesses know about the job bank website — www.jobbank.gc.ca — so that students can find out about the employment opportunities available in the area.
Mulroy says because Grey Bruce is such a large area, this event is a great opportunity for the Youth Services Officers to establish a relationship with employers across the region.
A Race For Jobs was already held on Monday between Kincardine and Sauble Beach.
Mulroy says overall, Hire A Youth Week promotes youth employment and provides networking events for young people and employers.
He also invites people to stop by anytime at the Owen Sound Service Canada Centre for Youth at 1450 1st Avenue West.
Employers can post job openings and young people can get help with resume building, interview advice, and job search strategies.
